North Malabar Spices

We have been running North Malabar Spices for a while now from our base in Kiliyangattu, Mananthavady. It is not a very big setup, just a small warehouse where we handle the spices that come in from the nearby farms. My father actually started this because he had a lot of friends who were farmers up in the hills. He saw how hard they worked and wanted to help them get their produce to the market. We mostly deal with black pepper, ginger, and some turmeric. It is a lot of physical work, especially when the heavy bags arrive. We do not have fancy machines or a shiny office. It is mostly just me and a couple of other guys from the neighborhood. We spend our mornings checking the quality of the batches and drying things out if they are too damp. The weather in Wayanad can be tricky, so we have to watch the rain. If it rains for a week, everything slows down. We do not do any big advertising or have a website. People usually just call us on the phone or stop by the shop in Mananthavady when they need something. We try to keep things simple and honest. Most of our days are spent weighing bags and talking to the local growers. It is a quiet life, but it keeps us busy. We are just trying to keep the business running smoothly and make sure everyone gets paid fairly for their hard work.
