Maya Coffee Works

Out here on Kuttaramba Road in Alakode, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Maya Coffee Works has been part of this street for a while now. We are mostly focused on the actual work of coffee, so you will see bags and machines sitting around whenever you walk in. It is not a place with soft sofas or quiet music. It sounds like work in here. The grinders make a lot of noise and there is always a bit of coffee dust on the shelves no matter how much we wipe them down. People from all over Alakode come by to get what they need. We usually have the front door open to let the air in, and you can smell the beans from further down the road. We are just regular people working here. Some days the machines act up and we have to spend the morning fixing them instead of grinding, which is frustrating but it happens. We do not have a big team or a human resources department. It is just us and the coffee. Most of our day is spent weighing things out and talking to the farmers or the locals who stop by for a chat. It is a practical kind of business. We do not pretend to be anything we are not. If you want to see how the coffee gets processed, you can usually see it happening right there in the back.
