M R Hollow Bricks

Karuvanchal is a quiet place mostly, and we are out in Balapuram. M R Hollow Bricks is just a small operation. We have been making these hollow blocks for a while now. It’s mostly outdoor work, so we are at the mercy of the weather. If it rains, we can't do much but wait it out under the shed. The yard is basically just a flat piece of dirt where we lay the bricks out to dry in the sun. It’s physical work, and my back feels it by the end of the week. We don't have a website or a marketing team. If people need bricks, they usually hear about us from someone else in the village or just drive by and see the stacks. I do the billing myself on a small notepad. We try to keep things fair because we know everyone around here. Sometimes the machine acts up and we have to spend half a day fixing it with whatever tools are handy. It’s not a high-tech factory. It’s just a place where we make blocks for walls and sheds. The birds are usually louder than the machines in the morning. We just keep at it, day after day, making sure the blocks are strong enough for whatever someone is building. It’s an honest way to make a living, even if it’s messy and the dirt gets everywhere. We just work until the sun goes down and start again tomorrow.
