Kalyan Spice & Foods

Kalyan Spice & Foods is located inside the Granb Bazaar Complex on Bellard Road. We are right by the Old Post Office in Payyanbalam. If you walk into the complex, you can usually smell the spices before you even see our door. It’s a strong scent that stays on your clothes all day. We spend a lot of time measuring out different seeds and powders for customers. It’s a small space, so we have to be careful about how we stack the sacks so they don't fall over. The Granb Bazaar is an old place, and it has a lot of character, but the lighting isn't always the best. We’ve been at this for a while now. We don't do any big promotions or anything. People just know where we are. We get our stock from different places and spend the mornings checking the quality. It’s dusty work, and your hands get stained from the turmeric or the chili, but it's what we do. The Bellard Road traffic can be a nightmare in the afternoons, but inside the complex, it feels a bit more separated from the world. We have our small group of workers who know exactly where everything is kept. It’s a simple business. We just want to sell good ingredients and go home at the end of the day. The Old Post Office is a good landmark for people who aren't familiar with Payyanbalam. We get a lot of phone calls asking for directions, and we always say the same thing: just look for the post office and you're almost there.
