We are located on Mundayad Road in Chovva, which is a bit of a quiet spot compared to the busy city center. At Cannanore Handloom Exports, we still do things the old way for the most part. There’s a lot of rhythmic noise from the looms, which you get used to after a while. It’s actually kind of nice once you stop noticing the clatter. We focus on handloom stuff because that’s what this area is known for, and it’s what we grew up seeing every day. It’s not fast work. You can’t rush a handloom or the thread just snaps and you have to start over. We spend a lot of time just sitting at the frames, watching the patterns grow inch by inch. Our building isn't anything special, just a functional space where we keep the yarn and the finished goods. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy here and we have to run around making sure the roof isn't leaking near the stock. It’s a lot of responsibility keeping everything dry and clean. We aren't looking to become some massive global name; we just want to keep the looms moving and the workers busy. It’s a simple life, really. We open up early when the air is still cool and try to get as much done as we can before the midday heat hits us. It’s just us, some thread, and a lot of patience every single day.
