Megha Dress Designing

The shop is located at Sai Dham in the Alavil area, right on Anandan Road. It’s a small space where we do most of the designing and stitching. If you walk in, you’ll see sewing machines on the tables and a lot of different colored threads hanging on the walls. We spend our days measuring fabric and cutting out patterns for dresses. It gets quite noisy when all the machines are running at once, and there is always a pile of scrap material on the floor near the bins. People from the neighborhood bring in their own cloth and tell us what they want, or they look at some of the things we have already made. We have a big wooden table where we do the chalk marking and the cutting. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on the needles, so we take breaks to stand outside on the road for a bit of fresh air. During the wedding season or before the big festivals, the shop gets really crowded with bags of half-finished work everywhere. Sometimes we run out of a specific button or a zipper and someone has to go out and find it. It isn't a fancy boutique, just a place where we work with our hands to make clothes that fit right. We have a few mirrors on the wall so people can see how the fitting looks.
