Out here on Nazarapur Road in Kannauj, we have our little setup at Prateek Villa. It is the very first house you see when you turn onto the road. We are mainly into fish farming. It is a lot of water and a lot of checking on things at odd hours of the night. The fish do not care if it is a Sunday or a holiday. We started this because we had some land that was better for ponds than it was for growing wheat. It has been a big learning curve for us. Some days the oxygen levels in the water are off and we have to scramble to fix it. It is messy work. You always end up smelling a bit like the ponds at the end of the shift. My boots are always wet and muddy. We meet at the villa to discuss who needs what supplies or if the feed is running low. It is not a big operation at all. Just a few of us locals who decided to try something a bit different from the usual crops. The road gets a bit rough after the heavy rains, so you have to drive slow when coming to visit. We spend a lot of time just watching the water. It is actually quite peaceful. We sell what we catch to the small markets nearby. Nothing travels too far from here. We just try to keep things simple and honest. My brother helps with the nets and the sorting.
