Shubham Brick Field

Out here in the Jalalabad Block, things move a bit slower than in the city. Shubham Brick Field is located near the Khurdpur Railway Station, so we hear the trains going by all day and night. It’s a lot of mud and fire when you’re making bricks, and that is exactly what we do. The Kannauj District weather dictates a lot of our schedule. When it rains, everything stops, and we just have to wait for the ground to dry out so we can get back to the kilns. It is not an easy job, but it is what we know. People from the nearby villages come to us when they are building a new wall or a small house. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is just a few of us making sure the bricks are baked right and stacked properly. The location near the railway station helps some, but mostly we deal with local folks who drive their own tractors over to pick up a load. You can find us easily enough if you follow the tracks toward Khurdpur. The air smells like smoke most days, and our clothes are always covered in red dust. That is just part of the life here. We don’t try to act like we are some big corporation. We are just a local brick field doing what needs to be done to keep the supply moving for our neighbors in the block.
