N H Bricks

N H Bricks is out in Village Kanki in the Uttar Dinajpur district. We are pretty easy to spot because we are right near the Highway Road. Being near the highway makes it easier for the tractors and trucks to get to us without getting stuck in the smaller village paths. It’s a rural spot, so there is plenty of space for the kilns and the drying area. We spend most of our time out in the sun. Making bricks in a village like Kanki means you are always dealing with the dirt and the mud. When the wind picks up, the dust from the highway comes right into the yard, but we are used to it by now. It’s a basic life here. We start early in the morning before it gets too hot. Most of the people working here are from around the village. We don't have any fancy websites or big advertisements. Most people just see us from the road and stop their vehicles to ask what we have. It’s a lot of physical labor, stacking the raw bricks and then moving the finished ones. Sometimes the rain messes up our schedule, and we just have to wait it out. It is honest work and it keeps the village moving. We’ve been near this highway for some time now and it’s just where we belong. There isn't much else to it except the daily grind of the brickyard.
