Retired Officer

Life up here in Himachal Pradesh is different from what I was used to during my time as an officer. I live in a house called Surya Sadan in the village of Shekhupur. It's a quiet spot near Kandrori and the mountains are always there in the background. My days are mostly spent tending to the small bit of land I have and making sure the house stays in good shape. Being an officer teaches you discipline so I still wake up early even though I don't have to report to anyone. The people in the village know me as the man who came back from the city to live a quiet life. I don't have much in the way of a business but I help out with local matters when the village elders ask. Kangra can get quite cold in the winters but we keep the fire going and stay warm. I have my dog for company and we walk through the paths every evening. It's a long way from the busy offices and the paperwork I used to handle. I don't miss the noise of the city at all. My address is 176402 and it's a place where you can actually hear yourself think. I spend time reading or just looking at the hills. It’s not a complicated existence but it’s exactly what I wanted after I finished my service years ago. This is where I plan to stay for good.
