New Mahajan Gerenal Store

You can find us at No-53, which is right near the Chowgan Bazar area in Kangra, Nurpur. It’s a pretty busy spot because of the market being so close. We started New Mahajan General Store because we wanted to have a place where people could pick up their daily things without too much trouble. The shop is packed with all sorts of items. We have bags of lentils, soap, and small toys for kids. We try to keep things where we can find them. Sometimes the shelves get a bit cluttered when we get a big delivery. The floor is old stone and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. In the winter, it gets quite cold here in Kangra. We usually have a small heater going behind the counter. We know most of the people who come in by their first names since they live just down the street. It’s a lot of chatting about the weather or how the local schools are doing while we bag up their groceries. We aren't trying to be the biggest store around. We are just a place where you can get what you need. Sometimes the narrow street outside gets blocked by a stray cow or a delivery rickshaw. That’s just life in Nurpur. We open early and stay open until the sun goes down and we lock the gate for the night. It is a long day but it is okay.
