Down in Dohalia, in the Kandi area, you’ll find Debbhoomi Rice Mill Private Limited. It’s a bit of a drive to get out here, but this is where the heart of the farming is. The mill is a sturdy building that has seen many harvests come and go. The walls are stained with the dust of a thousand bags of rice. We have a small team that handles everything from the unloading to the final packing. It’s a physical job, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. Kandi can get very dusty, and when the wind blows, you can see the rice husks flying through the air like snow. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone to write fancy brochures. We just focus on the grain that comes through our doors. The office is just a corner of the warehouse partitioned off with some plywood. We keep the account books there and a small shrine for daily prayers. The machinery we use is old, and it takes a lot of effort to keep it running smoothly, but it hasn’t let us down yet. We see the same faces every season, farmers bringing in their crops and staying for a chat. It’s not a fast-paced environment, things happen at their own speed here. We follow the rhythm of the harvest, and that is enough for us. It’s just how life goes in Dohalia for most of us.
