We are located out in Barakhama, which is in the Baliguda area of Kandhamal. Abhiyan Craft Producer Company Limited is run from a space provided by Sagar Nayak. Kandhamal is known for its hills and forests, and that’s where most of our work comes from. We work with local people who make things by hand. It’s a producer company, so it’s really about the folks in the villages around here. We don’t have a big corporate office with air conditioning. Most of our meetings happen on a porch or in a small room with a fan. We spend a lot of time visiting the artisans to see what they are making. The roads out here aren't always the best, especially during the monsoon, so it takes time to get around. We help organize the crafts so they can be sent to bigger markets. It is slow work because everything is handmade. We deal with wood, textiles, and other natural materials found in Orissa. The people involved have been doing this for generations. We just show the work that people do with their hands. It’s a very grounded way to run a business. We mostly just drink local tea and talk about how to get the crafts to the next city.
