Sri Kumaran Construction& Wood Carving

You can find us upstairs at No 32-H, Annai Indira Gandhi Salai. We are right by the railway station in Kanchipuram, and the Municipal Office is just across the road from our door. It’s a busy spot with all the trains and the people coming and going from the government offices. We handle construction but also do quite a bit of wood carving, which is a bit of an old-fashioned trade these days. The office usually smells like fresh sawdust and old coffee. My father started the wood carving side, and I brought in the construction part when I got older. We have a few carvers who sit in the back room working on temple doors or decorative pieces for homes. It takes a lot of patience. The stairs up to the office are a bit narrow, so watch your step if you come visit. We aren't really the type to wear suits or have fancy meetings. Usually, we are just sitting around a wooden table looking at sketches. Kanchipuram has a lot of tradition, and we try to keep that alive in the wood we carve. On the building side, we mostly do local residential projects. It’s hard work, especially when the weather is humid, but we’ve been doing it long enough that we know all the quirks of the soil here. We don't have a big marketing department, just our name on the door.
