We have our little office at No 28, Ellappa Nagar 2nd Street in Kanchipuram. It’s right opposite the Collector Office, which makes it easy to explain to people who aren't from this part of town. We’ve been doing construction work around here for a long time now. It’s mostly just us and a few local guys we hire for the heavy lifting. Kanchipuram is known for temples, but we mostly focus on small houses and boundary walls. The heat can get pretty bad in the middle of the day, so we usually start very early. You can find us at the site more often than in the office. If you do come by the street, look for the gate near the corner. We don't have a big neon sign or anything like that. Just a simple place where we keep our cement bags and tools. I usually handle the talking and my brother looks after the actual masonry. It’s a lot of dust and noise, but that’s the job. We don’t try to be something we aren’t. We just use good bricks and make sure the levels are right before we pour any concrete. Sometimes things take a bit longer if the rain starts, but we always finish what we started. It’s just how we were taught to work. No shortcuts, just regular daily labor until the house is standing.
