If you head down First Avenue in Injambakkam on the ECR, you will find us on the first floor at No. 2/241. Emed Bio Medical Services Systems is a bit of a mouthful, so we just call it the shop when we are talking to each other. We deal with a lot of medical equipment and technical systems that hospitals need for their daily operations. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit steep, especially when we are carrying heavy boxes or spare parts. Being near the ECR means we get a bit of a breeze sometimes, which is nice during the summer months. Inside, there are workbenches covered in tools, wires, and testing gear. We spend a lot of our time testing machines and making sure everything is calibrated correctly. It’s quiet work mostly, focused on the small details. We have been in this Injambakkam spot for some time now, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. It’s not a showroom; it’s more of a workspace where things actually get fixed and prepared. We have old manuals stacked on shelves and spare parts in labeled bins that only we can really understand. People from the local clinics stop by when they have a problem with their gear. We just sit there with our soldering irons and multi-meters, trying to figure out why a board isn’t working properly. It is steady work.
