Farida Classic Shoes is based out at 151/4 on the Mount Poonamate Road. It’s a busy stretch of road and we see a lot of trucks and cars passing by all day long. The facility here is where we focus on making shoes. It’s a big operation compared to some of the smaller shops in the city center. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the sound of the machines and the very distinct smell of leather and glue. It’s a working factory, so things aren't always spotless. There are bins of soles and racks of half-finished shoes everywhere. We spend our days making sure the production lines are moving. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, even with the big fans going. We have been out here for a long time and the staff mostly live nearby. We don't spend much time on fancy office work. We are more concerned with how the shoes are coming together on the floor. The yard outside usually has some vehicles being loaded up for delivery. It’s a straightforward business. We make footwear and we try to do it right without a lot of fuss. It isn't a glamorous job but it is what we know how to do. The gate stays open from early morning until late evening.
