Our place is located at number 14 in T.V. Nagar, over in the Mugalivakkam area. It’s not the easiest place to find if you’re coming from the main part of Ramapuram, but once you’ve been here once, you’ll remember the way. Exeter Shoes is basically just a workshop where we spend our days dealing with footwear. There is always a lot of dust from the sanding machines and the floor is usually covered in bits of rubber and leather. We aren't a big corporation with hundreds of employees; it’s just a handful of us who have been doing this for a long time. The building itself is nothing special to look at, just a plain front with a heavy door that sticks a bit when it rains. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone to answer the phones in a professional way. Usually, whoever is closest to the desk just picks it up. Some days are really busy and we’re all working late to finish a batch, and other days are a bit slower. We just try to keep things steady. The tea shop around the corner is where we usually end up during our breaks. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We don't make any big promises, we just show up and do the work that needs doing. It can be tiring and the pay isn't always great, but it’s what we know how to do here in Mugalivakkam.
