Down here at Saravana Apartments on Plot Number 13, things stay pretty busy for us. We are located in M.R.K Nagar in Kolapakkam, which is a decent spot to run the import and export business from. It’s funny because it’s an apartment building, so it feels more like a home than a stiff office. We spend our days dealing with various goods that need to go overseas or come back into the country. My colleagues and I usually have the fan going full blast while we sort through invoices. There’s always someone coming by with a delivery or asking about a specific shipment of mills or materials. We don’t have a big fancy lobby or anything like that. Instead, you'll find a few desks pushed together and a lot of empty boxes in the corner. Sometimes the internet is slow and it makes the international emails take forever, which is frustrating when you’ve got a deadline. We usually take our lunch breaks together and talk about anything other than work for thirty minutes. It keeps us sane. Working in Kolapakkam means we see the same neighbors every day. We’ve become part of the local scenery here. It isn't always exciting, but there is something satisfying about seeing a container finally get cleared. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. It’s just us, the paperwork, and the daily grind.
