3 Star Murukku & Sweets

If you walk down Raj Poalapuram 5th Street in Mouvilvakkam, you can usually smell the oil and the spices before you even see our door. That is just how it is at 3 Star Murukku & Sweets. We have been making these snacks for a long time now. It’s a hot job, standing over the large kadais all morning, but someone has to do it. The flour gets everywhere, on our clothes and on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. We aren't some big factory with machines doing everything. Most of it is done by hand, the way we learned years ago. Our bags are simple and we don't spend money on fancy advertisements. People just know we are here on the street. Sometimes the delivery guys are late or we run out of a certain ingredient, and things get a bit hectic. We just keep frying and packing. It is a small space, so we have to stay organized, though it doesn't always look that way to an outsider. We see the same faces every week coming in for their snacks. It makes the day go by faster when you recognize the people you are selling to. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just focus on the murukku and the sweets and making sure the taste stays the same for every batch we produce. It is hard work but we are used to the rhythm of the kitchen now.
