Our college is situated in Vellathur, which is part of the Sholingur area in Vellore. C M Annamalai Polytecbic College has been part of this landscape for a while. It’s a bit of a trek for some students, but they make it here every morning for their practical sessions. The labs are the main part of the place where most of the activity happens. You’ll hear the sound of tools and machines clanking away while people work on their projects. It isn't a silent library type of atmosphere here. Things are a bit dusty sometimes because of all the technical work, but that is just how a polytechnic works. We have various departments spread out across the site. The benches in the common areas are where students sit to eat their tiffins or talk about their workshops. We don’t have much in the way of expensive landscaping, just the usual trees and a bit of open ground. The buildings are solid and have been through many monsoons. Most of the people working here are from around Vellore or the nearby villages, so there is a very local feel to how we operate. We just go about our business, teaching the basics of engineering and trade work. It’s about giving the students something real to do with their hands. It’s a straightforward place with no big surprises, just a lot of hard work happening daily for everyone involved in the workshops and the classrooms.
