Lenga village, ward 32. We make bricks here in Kamrup district. It’s a busy place. The kiln stays hot most of the year except when the rain gets too heavy in Assam. My family started this because there was a lot of building going on around Bezera. We have a crew from the local area who knows how to handle the clay just right. It’s hard work, standing out in the sun and keeping track of the loads. Sometimes the trucks get stuck on the dirt path when it pours, but we manage. We aren't a big factory with machines doing everything; it’s mostly hands-on stuff here. People from the nearby villages come to us when they are putting up a new wall or a small house. We keep a pile of bricks ready near the entrance of the yard. It gets dusty, and the noise of the tractors is constant, but that's just how it is. We try to keep things moving so nobody is waiting too long for their order. If you come by, you’ll probably see me or one of the guys checking the stacks. We don't have a fancy office or anything, just the shed, the tools, and the kilns. It’s just honest work day in and day out, and we like the routine of it. We keep the fires burning even when things get tough.
