Masala Industries

Out here in Dubuk village, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We’re located right near the Uco Bank in the Rangia area of Kamrup district. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except for when we’re running our equipment. We called ourselves Masala Industries because that’s what we do—we work with spices all day long. The building is a simple one, mostly concrete and tin, which gets pretty hot in the afternoons. We spend our mornings sorting through raw spices, picking out the bits that don't belong, and getting everything ready for the grinders. It’s a lot of manual labor, and we often go home with our skin smelling like cumin or cloves. We aren't a big factory with hundreds of workers. It’s just a small group of us from the village who know the work well. Sometimes the rain makes the roads to Kamrup a bit difficult, so we have to plan our deliveries carefully. We don’t have fancy brochures or a sales team. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here a long time and people know where to find us. It’s honest work, and it keeps us connected to the land and the crops grown around here. Every bag we pack is done by hand, and we check them one by one.
