Assam Ki Chai

People always ask how we ended up here in Aremgapara right by the Auto World. It is a noisy spot sometimes with the railway crossing so close, but we have gotten used to the sound of the trains going by every day. Assam Ki Chai started small and it stays that way because we like talking to the regulars who stop in when they are waiting for their vehicles to get looked at or just passing through. My hands are usually busy with the stove or cleaning up the counter. It is not a fancy place at all. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint and the chairs have seen better days. But the tea is hot and we make it the way we know how. We don't have a big team, just a few of us making sure there is enough for whoever walks in. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in if we leave the door open too long. You learn to live with the rhythm of the railway. Some days are packed and other days we just sit and watch the cars go toward the crossing. It’s just a normal life here. We don't try to be anything special, just a place to get a cup and sit for a minute before heading back out into the heat. The area has changed a bit over the years but we are still right here.
