About Shristi Handloom Producer Company Limited – Textile in Kamrup Metro
We are located in Village Bhogpur, which some people around here call Naktipara, out in the Baksa district. Shristi Handloom Producer Company Limited operates from Dilip Dewry’s place. It’s a rural area, so things move a bit slower than they do in the big cities like Guwahati. We are close to the Barama post office and the police station if you need a landmark. Our work is all about handlooms. In this part of Assam, weaving is something almost everyone knows how to do from a young age. We bring people together to produce traditional cloth that people actually use. It isn’t always easy, especially when the roads get muddy after a heavy rain and the trucks can't get through. We don’t have a big corporate office; we just work out of the village house. There’s always the sound of looms clicking if you walk through the village on a quiet afternoon. We manage the production side of things, making sure the weavers have the yarn they need. It’s a community thing, really. Dilip’s house is where we keep the records and meet up to talk about the work for the week. We don’t use fancy marketing because everyone around here already knows who we are and what we do. We just want to keep the handloom tradition going. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until sunset. Sometimes the power is out for hours, so we just work by the window.
