Seven Sisters Silk Producers Initiative & Economic Revival Foundation

The Seven Sisters Silk Producers Initiative & Economic Revival Foundation is over in Jorhat. We are located at Dhatatreya Hosagrahar’s place on Club Road, specifically near Golf View Road. Jorhat is a place that knows a lot about silk, so it makes sense for us to be here. Our name is a bit of a mouthful, but we just focus on the people who actually make the silk and trying to help the local economy a bit. It is hard work for the producers, and we try to see how they can keep doing what they do without struggling so much. We aren't some big city firm with shiny windows. Our office feels more like a home because it’s part of the local neighborhood. The 785008 area is where we spend all our time. We talk to weavers and farmers and anyone involved in the silk trade. Some days we spend more time on the road than in the office. We don't have a lot of fancy brochures or a marketing team. We just have our names and the work we do every day. Revival is a slow process, and we know that. We take things one day at a time, trying to be practical about the problems people face. If you are ever near Golf View Road, you might see us around. It’s just a small group of us trying to do right by the silk industry here.
