We are over here in Guwahati on Arunoday Path. It is a quiet enough street most days. The office or whatever you want to call it is at House Number 6, right there in Niru Barman’s place. It’s not a big fancy factory or anything like that. We just do our work here with the clothes and the designs. Some days the humidity in Assam really gets to you, so we keep the fans going and just get through the orders. There’s a lot of coming and going since we’re in Hengrabari. People know the house. We started Mill Merli Fashions because we needed something to do that made sense. We handle the fabric and check the stitching ourselves. It’s a lot of sitting around the table and figuring out what looks right. Sometimes the delivery guys get lost looking for the path, but they usually find us eventually. We don’t have a big sign outside yet, just the work going on inside. It is a local thing, really. We spend our mornings checking the materials we got and the afternoons are for packing things up. It’s just us and a few others helping out. We like the neighborhood. It’s got a good feel to it. Nothing too complicated, just a small operation running out of a home in Guwahati. That’s pretty much how it is here every day of the week.
