Out here in Sangaiyumphamcherapur Mathak, things move a bit slower than in the big city. Cherapur Seed & Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited is our small operation where we focus on seeds and general farm stuff. It’s basically just a group of local farmers who wanted to have a bit more control over what we plant. We spend a lot of time looking at seeds and making sure they’re the right kind for our soil here. The weather can be tricky, so you have to know what you’re doing. Our office is right in the heart of the village area. It’s not a polished corporate building, just a practical space where we store things and keep our records. Most days, you’ll find someone around to talk to, but we’re usually busy with the actual farming side of things. We’ve lived in this area all our lives, so we know the land pretty well. Setting up as a producer company was just a way for us to get better access to things we need for the farms. We don't do big ads or have a fancy website. Most of our neighbors know where we are if they need anything. It’s a community thing more than anything else. We take it day by day and try to make sure the next harvest is a good one. That’s the long and short of it for us, and we hope to keep going for years.
