Our little office is located right in the S.S. Market at Shop Number 14. It is directly opposite the Mahavidyalaya in Kalyani, so we see a lot of students walking back and forth all day long. The market is always buzzing with activity, which makes the days go by pretty fast. Being in a shop space means we are right in the middle of everything. It’s not very big, but we’ve managed to fit a couple of tables and a cupboard for our files. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when a few people stop by at the same time. The ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking noise, but we’ve gotten used to it over the months. We don’t spend much on decorations or anything like that because we are usually too busy with the paperwork. There is a snack shop nearby that smells like fried samosas every evening, which can be a bit distracting when you are hungry. We just handle things one day at a time here. It’s a very local feel, and everyone in this part of the market knows one another by name. We don't really do the whole professional corporate thing. It’s more about sitting down, having a chat if someone walks in, and making sure the records are kept straight. It’s a simple way of working, but it suits the atmosphere of the market and the town. We usually close up shop when the market starts to get really loud in the evenings.
