Joy Joy Tara Rice Mill Private Limited is a bit of a local landmark because we are right by the Kalyani Chitra Mandir. People usually use the cinema hall to find us. It’s a busy little corner of the world. The mill has been running for a while, and the name Joy Joy Tara is something everyone around here recognizes. It’s not a huge operation, but we stay busy throughout the year. The sound of the machines usually starts up around seven in the morning. If the cinema is playing a loud movie, you can barely hear the rice being processed, which is kind of funny. We have a small yard where the tractors pull in to drop off the bags. It can get pretty cramped when three or four of them show up at once. The floor of the mill is always a bit slippery with rice dust, so you have to watch your step. We have a small crew, mostly men from the nearby villages who walk or bike in every day. We don’t have a big corporate office, just a wooden table where we keep the registers and a fan that squeaks when it turns. It’s a practical place. We don’t spend money on decorations or painting the walls every year. As long as the rice is moving and the customers are satisfied, we are happy. It gets humid, and we drink a lot of tea to keep going through the afternoon shift.
