Chawan Furniture

We are located at number 2 in Chintamani Apartment over in the Parnaka area. If you walk by, you will probably hear the sound of a saw or the smell of wood polish long before you see the door. The workshop is always covered in a thin layer of sawdust, no matter how many times we sweep it. We spend our days measuring pieces of plywood and fitting hinges on cupboard doors. It is physical work and our hands are usually a bit rough from the wood and the tools. We don't have a big showroom with fancy displays. Instead, we have pieces of furniture in different stages of being finished scattered around the room. Sometimes a customer brings in a picture from a magazine and asks if we can make something similar. We look at it and tell them what is possible with the wood we have. Parnaka is an old part of the neighborhood, and we have been here long enough that most people know where to find us. We often work late into the evening when there is a lot to get done. The light in the shop isn't great, but we know where everything is by heart. It’s a simple life of making things that people use in their homes every day. We just take it one chair or one table at a time and keep at it. Some days the wood delivery is late, so we just focus on sanding.
