Our place, Mirambika Pigment, is out in Village-Dhanot, right along the road that connects Chhatral and Kadi. If you drive by, you will see it is a practical setup designed for making colors and nothing more. The air around here often has a bit of dust in it from the powders we handle every day. Working with pigments is a messy business, and no matter how much we clean, there is always a hint of blue or red on the floor or someone’s boots. It is quiet out here in the village compared to the city, but inside the building, the machines make a steady rhythm that we all work to. We have been at 155/1 for a while now, and the neighbors know us as the people who are always covered in a bit of paint. We do not have a shiny reception area or people in suits. It is mostly just us in our work clothes, keeping an eye on the batches and moving heavy bags around. The trucks come down the Chhatral-Kadi road at all hours to pick up what we have finished. Some days are longer than others, especially when a machine acts up or the weather gets too humid for the drying process. We just fix what needs fixing and keep going. It is a simple life centered around the work we do in this small corner of the village.
