Asian Mills is based out of Plot No. 1/2/3/4 in Phase-1 of the GIDC. It’s a large plot, so we have plenty of room for the milling machines and the storage silos. Being in the industrial estate means we are surrounded by other factories, so there is always a low roar of engines and trucks in the background. We run on a pretty tight schedule here. The morning shift comes in and takes over from the night crew, and the mills rarely stop spinning. It gets quite loud inside, and there’s a fine dust that settles on everything despite how much we try to sweep it up. We’ve got a small office at the front where the paperwork gets handled, but the real work happens on the floor. We deal with large batches of materials, so there are always sacks piled up and forklifts moving back and forth. It’s a very functional environment. We don’t have decorative plants or nice furniture; it’s all about the machines and the output. Most of us have been working in this Phase-1 area for a long time, so we know the local guys at the other units. We grab tea from the same vendor and complain about the power cuts or the heat. It’s just the daily grind of industrial life. We focus on keeping the mill running smoothly and making sure the bags are loaded properly for the morning transport.
