Running an ice plant is a lot of work, especially when the sun is hitting the metal roof hard at Plot No. 3005/2 on Pansar Road. Aruna Ice Plant has been part of this Gidc Phase-3 landscape for a long time. It’s always wet on the floor, and you can usually hear the constant hum of the compressors from way out on the street. People come by at all hours needing big blocks of ice for different things. Sometimes it's for keeping fish fresh, other times it's for events happening nearby. We don't have a big office or a reception area. Usually, one of us is just sitting by the loading dock with a notebook and a pen. It gets very slippery, so you really have to watch your step when you come inside the building. The machines are getting old but they still do the job day after day. We spend a lot of our time fixing pipes or making sure the water is flowing right into the molds. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The trucks arrive really early in the morning, and that is when things get really hectic around here. After the morning rush, it quietens down a bit and we just keep an eye on the pressure gauges. If you are driving down Pansar Road, you can't miss us because of the big trucks usually parked outside.
