K. P. Woodcraft

K. P. Woodcraft is situated at No.2, Kalainger Street in the Ramachandra Nagar area of Emaper. It’s a pretty quiet spot for the most part. We spend our days surrounded by planks of wood and the smell of sawdust. The workshop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about where we put things so we don't trip over each other. We use a lot of manual tools because we like the control they give us. It takes longer that way, but we aren't in a huge rush. Some days we are just fixing an old table that someone brought in, and other days we’re starting something new from scratch. The humidity in Emaper can make the wood act up sometimes, so we have to keep an eye on how it’s drying. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a long time, and people know they can just drop by if they need something fixed up. We don't have a big marketing plan or a polished storefront. It’s just a place where work gets done. My back usually aches a bit by the time we finish for the day, but it feels good to see a finished piece sitting there ready to go. We keep the scrap wood for the stove or for small repairs. It’s a practical way to live. We just do our best with what we have and keep the shop running day to day. We like the quiet life here on Kalainger Street.
