Down here on Prade Street in Kalka, we run this little outpost for the vehicles. It is number 104, a building that has seen better days but stays sturdy enough for our needs. Kalka is a gateway for many, and we see a lot of traffic passing through towards the hills every day. We handle the logistics and the local needs for the transport vehicles that keep this whole region connected. It is mostly a small crew of us here. We keep the ledger books on the old wooden desk and try to stay organized despite the chaos of the busy street right outside our window. Haryana winters get quite cold, so we usually have a small heater running in the corner to stay warm. We do not have any flashy advertisements on the walls. Mostly it is just old calendars and some technical diagrams. People stop in when they need help with their vehicles or have questions about the latest models available. We try to be helpful without being pushy about it. It is a work-focused environment. We know the local drivers by name. We understand that if their vehicle is not running, they are not earning any money. That makes our job feel important in a very basic way. We stay open late sometimes if a delivery is expected. No one here wears a suit. We wear clothes that can get a bit of grease on them. It is just a practical place for practical people.
