Social Animal Rescue Team Foundation

We are up here in Kalimpong, specifically at the 20th Mile area. If you know Doma Bhutia’s place, that is where we are. Social Animal Rescue Team Foundation is just a bunch of us who could not stand seeing animals suffering on the roads. It is cold up here in the winters, and the stray dogs and cats have it rough. We do not have a fancy kennel or a high-tech clinic. It is more of a grassroots thing. We use whatever space we have to keep them safe and fed. The hills are steep, so getting around to find a sick animal can be a real workout. We are not a big organization with lots of funding. Usually, it is just us digging into our own pockets or asking friends for a bit of help with food and medicine. We spend a lot of time walking the trails and checking on the regulars. Sometimes people drop off boxes at the 20th Mile post office for us. It gets muddy and messy, and there is always hair on our clothes. But that is life when you are doing this. We are not trying to be heroes; we just like animals. If you are in Kalimpong and see us out, we are probably carrying a bag of kibble or looking for a pup that went missing. It is a simple life, and we are just doing what needs to be done.
