Out here in Kalimpong, things move a bit slower than in the plains. Yogesh Sharma is the one who handles the paperwork and the day-to-day for Kalimpong Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited. We are located at Bich Kagey, specifically Khatian 226 and Dag 5. It is a beautiful area, but the work is hard. Farming on the hills means you are always walking up or down. We focus on organic ways because that is how it has been done here for a long time. The soil is different at JL No 007 compared to other parts of the district. We all know each other around here. It is a group of us farmers trying to get our crops out to people who want them. The weather can be unpredictable. Sometimes the mist stays for days and everything gets damp. We do not have a polished corporate office. Our meeting place is just a simple spot where we talk about seeds and the next harvest. It is mostly about the dirt and the weather. We share what we know and try to help each other out when the harvest is ready. It is not a glamorous life, but it is what we do. Being part of a producer company just means we stand together. We deal with whatever the season throws at us, from the heavy rains to the dry spells. It is just us, our land, and the crops we grow.
