Dharmamba Handloom is located over at Sarada Nagar, D NO 2-220-35-1. We are a producer company, which means it’s really about the people who are doing the actual weaving. In this part of the state, handlooms are a big deal, and we try to keep that tradition going without making it sound like some big corporate project. It’s dusty work, and the looms make a lot of noise, rhythmic and constant, throughout the day. You can hear it from the street before you even walk through the door. We have people from the local community coming in and out, some bringing their finished pieces and others just stopping by for a chat or some tea. The office part of it is pretty basic, just a few chairs and a table where we look at the patterns and handle the paperwork. We don't spend money on fancy marketing because the quality of the handloom usually speaks for itself to anyone who knows cloth. It’s a slower process than what you’d find in a big modern factory, but we think that’s okay. Things take time if you want them to be done properly by hand. We deal with a lot of different threads and dyes, and sometimes the smell of the yarn is quite strong in the mornings when we open up. Sarada Nagar is a good place for us because it feels like home. We aren't looking to change the world; we just want to make sure the weavers have a place to work and the handloom tradition stays alive.
