Shri Guru Kirpa Rice Mills

In Village Chhapar, along Dahliz Road, is where Shri Guru Kirpa Rice Mills is situated. It’s a quiet corner of the world most of the time. The mill has been part of the landscape here for quite a while now. We don't have any fancy technology, just the standard equipment that gets the job done. The floors are concrete and they’ve seen a lot of wear over the years. We spend a lot of time sweeping up and trying to keep the place somewhat tidy, but it's a losing battle with all the grain moving around. The sun comes through the high windows in the afternoon and lights up all the dust motes in the air. It actually looks kind of nice if you ignore how much work there is left to do. We carry the heavy sacks on our shoulders, which keeps us in decent shape, I suppose. The guys here are all from around the village, so we know each other's families and what's going on in town. We don't have a mission statement or anything like that. We just want to finish the day's work and get home for dinner. Sometimes the machines are temperamental and we have to spend half the morning coaxing them back to life. It’s just part of the routine on Dahliz Road and we are used to the way things work here.
