Aggarwal Iron Foundry

Our foundry, Aggarwal Iron Foundry, is located right on Peoda Road. It’s a bit out of the main town, so it’s quieter here until we start the machines. We’ve been working with iron for years, and the floor of the shop is always covered in black dust and bits of metal. It’s hard to keep the place clean when you are melting and casting all day. The furnace is the heart of the place. It makes the whole building shake a little bit when it's at full heat. We usually start very early in the morning before the sun gets too high, because once the furnace is going, it gets incredibly hot inside. Most of the guys have been with us since the beginning. We don’t have a big office or anything like that. There is just a small wooden table where we keep the logbook and the phone. Sometimes the phone line acts up and we have to go outside to get a good signal. Peoda Road can get quite dusty with the trucks passing by, and during the rains, it turns into a bit of a mud track. We spend a lot of time just moving heavy parts from one side of the yard to the other. It’s not a job for someone who likes to stay clean. We eat our lunch sitting on some of the old crates in the shade. It’s just how we’ve always done it here, and it works for us.
