Matha Steels, Kottayam

We are based over in Amalagiri, which is a quiet part of the Kottayam district in Kerala. The business runs out of the area near Gigi Joseph’s house in Kazhuthadiyil. It is a very local operation and we have been here for years. We deal with steel, so it is heavy and sometimes messy work, but it is what we know how to do. The rain in Kerala can make moving metal around a bit of a challenge during the monsoon, but we managed to get used to it. Being near the Amalagiri P.O. makes it easy for people to find us. Most of our customers are folks from around the district who are building their own houses or fixing up small shops. We do not have a shiny showroom or any fancy sales staff. It is more of a place where you just come by to get what you need and have a quick chat about your project. We have the steel rods and bits sitting in the yard ready to go. The house is a familiar landmark for people who live in this part of Kottayam. We handle the orders as they come in and load up the trucks ourselves. It is a straightforward way to earn a living and we like being part of the neighborhood. We just keep our heads down and supply the steel that helps our neighbors build.
