J.S. Rice Mills

J.S. Rice Mills is located out in Village Paharipur, right on the Guhla Cheeka Road. It’s a bit of a drive out here, but it’s where the space is. The mill is a large set of sheds and a paved yard where the trucks can turn around without getting stuck in the mud. Being on Guhla Cheeka Road means we get a lot of transport passing through between the bigger towns. In Village Paharipur, everyone knows the sound of our mill. It’s a steady thumping noise that starts in the morning and doesn’t stop until late. We’ve got a small crew of men who live nearby and walk to work. They know exactly how to handle the grain. It’s hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the tin roofs of the sheds. We don’t have any fancy technology, just the stuff that has worked for years. We keep the registers by hand and spend a lot of time on the phone talking to drivers. Sometimes the Guhla Cheeka Road gets blocked up, and we have to wait for hours for a delivery, but we just take it as it comes. There is no point in getting stressed over things you can’t change. We just focus on the bags and the machines and making sure the yard is clear for the next day's work. It is just the way things are done out here in the village.
