Jai Shanker Rice & General Mills

The mill is out here on Kharoudi Road in Cheeka. It’s been here for quite some time now, just doing what we do with the rice and the general milling side of things. If you walk down the road, you’ll see the gates and the trucks parked outside waiting their turn. It gets pretty dusty when the season is in full swing, but that is just how it goes in this line of work. Most days start early, before the sun is even fully up, because there is always a lot to get through before the day ends. We spend a lot of time checking the machinery and making sure the grain is moving through like it should. It’s not a fancy setup, just a practical place where people come to get their work done. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when the rain hits the road hard, but we manage to keep things moving. Cheeka is a busy enough place, and being on this road means we see a lot of folks passing through. We’ve got a small crew here, mostly people from around the area who know the business well. There is no big office or anything like that, just the mill and the yard where everything happens. We just try to keep the machines running and handle the loads as they come in. It's loud and messy, but it’s our daily life here. We don't think much about anything other than the work in front of us.
