Devika General Store

Devika General Store has been sitting here on Mydukur Road in Vasantapet for a while now. We open up early every morning, usually before the sun gets too hot, just to get the floor swept and the new boxes of supplies sorted out. It is a simple place with shelves full of the things people in Vasantapet need every day, like pulses, soaps, and little snacks for the kids. Sometimes the delivery trucks come late and we have to wait around, but that is just how things go in this business. Most of the people who walk through the door are neighbors we have known for years. They come in for a pack of tea or maybe some oil and stay to talk about the weather or local news for a few minutes. We do not have fancy displays or those big bright lights you see in the city malls. It is just a regular shop where we try to keep everything stocked up so nobody has to go too far to find what they are looking for. The fans hum all day long and the counter gets a bit dusty from the road, but we keep at it. Working here means knowing exactly which shelf holds the spices and which one has the cleaning supplies without even looking. It is a busy life, especially in the evenings when everyone is heading home from work and stops by to pick up stuff for dinner.
