It’s a bit of a drive from the main town center, which means we have more space than most businesses in the city. The area is quite open, and you can see the hills in the distance on a clear day. We deal with a lot of overseas shipping and logistics, so our yard is often full of large containers and trucks waiting their turn to load or unload. The office is just a simple building on the edge of the property. It’s got a tin roof, so when it rains, it’s incredibly loud inside and you have to shout to be heard. We spend a lot of time checking customs documents and talking to drivers about their routes. It’s a lot of coordination and trying to make sure things aren't sitting around for too long. The ground is mostly dirt and gravel, so it gets pretty muddy when the monsoon hits and the trucks kick up a lot of dust when it’s dry. We don't have a reception desk or a waiting room with magazines for guests. If someone comes to see us, they usually just stand in the doorway or pull up a spare plastic chair. It’s a practical environment for a practical job. We work long hours, especially when there’s a deadline for a ship. We just do what needs to be done.
