Saagar Poultry Farm

The farm is located out by the sugar factory in Kalalla. It’s a bit out of the way, which is good for the birds. At Saagar Poultry Farm, the days start very early, usually before the sun is even up properly. There is always a lot of cleaning and feeding to do. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. We wear old boots and spend most of our time outdoors or in the sheds. The smell of the sugar factory is always in the air depending on which way the wind is blowing. We have a routine that we follow every single day, even on Sundays. The chickens don't care about holidays, so neither do we. It’s a family-run kind of place, so we don't have a lot of workers. We just do the work ourselves. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, like when it rains too much and the ground gets muddy around the factory road. We sell what we produce to local shops and people who drive out here. We don't have a website or any big marketing. We just talk to people. It’s hard work and your back hurts by the end of the day, but it’s what we know how to do. We’ve been in Kalalla for years and the factory is a good landmark for people trying to find us. It’s just a regular farm doing regular chores day in and day out.
