Indian Potatoes Ltd. is situated just outside Majevadi Gate, right behind the Tanna Weight Bridge. It’s a location that makes a lot of sense for us because of all the trucks and tractors coming and going throughout the day. We spend most of our time dealing with heavy sacks of potatoes, checking for quality and sorting them out for different buyers in the region. The air usually smells a bit like earth and fresh produce, which is something you get used to very quickly when you work here. It’s a very practical kind of place with no frills. We don’t have much in the way of decoration, just scales, crates, and plenty of floor space for the stock to be moved around. Being near the weight bridge means we see a lot of activity every single day. We talk to drivers, farmers, and loaders from early morning until late in the evening. There is always a layer of dust from the road, and the noise of heavy engines is constant, but that is just part of the job. We aren't a corporate office with people in suits; we wear clothes that can get a bit dirty because that's the nature of the vegetable trade. Some days are slower than others, depending on the harvest and the market prices, but there’s always something to be swept or moved. We just try to keep things moving so the potatoes don’t sit around for too long. It’s honest work that keeps us connected to the local farms.
