Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited

Our place is G-181 in the New North Colony over in Ambujanagar. This is part of the Kodinar Taluka in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. It is a company town through and through. Living here means you are part of the Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited family whether you like it or not. The colony is quite old and has a lot of trees, which is nice because the sun can be quite harsh in this part of the country. We handle the local coordination from this office. It is a simple setup with desks and old cupboards full of records. Most of us have been here for years, so we know the routine of the plant like the back of our hands. The pace of life is a bit slower than the big cities, but the work never really stops because the cement needs to go out. We deal with a lot of local people from the nearby villages who work at the site. It is a quiet life for the most part, punctuated by the shifts changing at the factory. We don't have fancy meetings, just quick chats over tea to solve whatever problem has come up that day. The colony is a safe place for families, and that reflects in how we run the office—it’s very informal but the work gets finished. It’s just how things are done here in Ambujanagar.
