The furnace heat is the first thing you notice when you walk into our shed at 102 G.I.D.C. Estate. We’ve been here in Phase II for a long time now. People drive past on Rajkot Road all day, but inside we are mostly focused on the molds and the molten metal. It is dusty work, and there is no getting around that. Not everyone likes the smell of a foundry, but it is just what we do every day. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning; we mostly stay out on the shop floor where the real work happens. Dealing with the sand and the patterns takes up most of our morning hours. Sometimes a casting doesn't come out right the first time, so we just have to start over and do it again until it is correct. It is hard work, especially when the weather in Dolatpara gets really hot in the summer. We keep the machines running and try to stay on top of the orders that pile up on the old wooden desk. Most of the guys working here have been doing this for years, so we all know the sounds the machines make when something is even slightly off. We just get on with it. There is always someone stopping by the gate to ask for directions or a quick bit of help. It isn't a glamorous life, but we like the work.
